Is it obvious to anyone else that Storyhill should cover Race for the Prize? It is to me.

"Packet" - in the sense of a mail ship - is a word I keep noticing lately.

Storypackets

I notice that Storyhill (the only band I've ever mentioned in a poem, though it wasn't a very good poem, and I wasn't a fan of theirs yet when I wrote it) is available through iTunes now. Apparently, Storyhill fans tend to also be fans of Superchunk and Autour de Lucie. That is, yesterday they were. Today, Superchunk is out of favor, but Lucie rules the hearts of the Hillheads!

I find this very interesting. Is it just an artifact of small sample sizes, in the early days of the listing? Has iTunes discovered a previously unknown convergence of tastes? Or has Chris 'n' Johnny's fanbase always had a thing for French indie-pop, and I'm just out of the loop? That last would be entirely plausible.

And speaking of validity

The RSS feed validates now, or at least comes as close as I can get it without moving to a real hosting service. (The MIME type comes back as text/plain, and there's no way to reconfigure that with my current setup.)

Not about the weather

I find I use iTMS almost exclusively to buy songs I consider guilty pleasures. Apple should do more of those one-hit wonder collections.

Thoughts II: Slush Day

1. The weather control grids Star Trek is so fond of are really overkill. Sidewalk-clearing robots would solve most of the problem.
2. Lots of people in my apartment complex seem to deal with bad road conditions by ordering out for pizza. That strikes me as admirably pragmatic but dubiously ethical.

Opportunities for simplification

Last Monday, I set my watch ahead by a minute, because it was running a bit slow. On Thursday, I noticed that my watch was fast by an hour. Apparently, I actually set it ahead by one minute plus one hour, and then only checked the minute hand for most of the week.

Which leads me to wonder: would a watch with only a minute hand be more or less useful than the normal kind? Unless you've just woken up from a nap, it's usually easy to guess which hour it is, and in bad light it sometimes takes a second to tell which hand is which. Plus, you wouldn't have to worry about adjusting your watch to the local time when you travel.

It's an opportunity for someone. If only I had the entrepreneurial spirit.
